Reflection

I had a lot of fun during this shoot! Zoey and I checked out gels, so we were able to experiment with them on our own, and I finally came prepared with poses for the two subjects!

There were many things I learned during this shoot and want to experiment with more after this assignment. Doing the in-class assignment of Sportraits was definitely stressful, with everyone doing poses and making their own lighting scene and trying to get different shots than everyone else. Being able to do this on my own with Zoey's help was a lot easier because I was able to make my own take on what I wanted to do without other people around doing different things and me fighting with myself.

I shot Giselle first and she was super easy to work with, even though there are very few poses you can do with pom-poms. I really like how my framing shot turned out and how much her eyes pop in it. She wasn't able to get her real uniforms for game days, but we worked with what she had and I'd say they turned out well.

I then shot Jayci and used the gels and I really love how those turned out. The red on the black made for a really moody feel and that was what I was really going for when I was planning for this shoot. When looking up different poses for the shoot, I found an idea to put a flash lower behind the subject and get like a key/rim light from a lower perspective on the subject and this worked out so well. I will definitely be using this again when I shoot portraits in the future.

One thing that was really tricky when shooting was the backdrop being WAY too narrow to get the shots I wanted, as well as the ones Zoey wanted. There were many things we could have done with Giselle jumping and doing stunts, but with little to no room behind her, we couldn't frame her in front of the backdrop the way we wanted without the backdrop showing.
