SETUP
REFLECTION
This assignment was kind of challenging for me, especially when trying to come up with ideas for the models. Even though I was looking up poses online, I feel like none of them were really working how I wanted them to.
We started by just shooting regular portraits of Mars and then we began experimenting with gels. Thats when I sort of had some fun with it. I chose the colors I wanted, pink for the background and orange highlighting Mars and it turned out exactly how I wanted for my first picture.
Then we went to Johns setup and I liked the more dramatic look of the photos I got there. With Hannah, I had the pose I wanted and it turned out exactly how I pictured. I love how the flash is bright on her face and the stick has more of a moody and darker look to it.
When shooting Elliot and Mars, I had a pose planned but I couldn't really get them to do it and it just looked too posed and not natural. When shooting I wanted to emphasize the gloves and make them pop so I had them hold them up and I had them kind of stagger with each other to give the photo more depth, instead of having them just stand side by side and I like the way it turned out.
When shooting portraits in the future, I really want to keep with the dramatic lighting and making things pop and stand out more. I feel like my portraits in assignments before this I have more less tried to light the whole subject rather than experimenting with the different angles and looks the flashes have when hitting the subject in different ways.
