When I first came to Central Michigan University, I was convinced I had my future figured out. I arrived on campus as biology major, fully expecting to become a Large Animal Veterinarian. But by the end of my very first semester, it became clear that the curriculum wasn't for me. I didn't feel connected to what I was learning and I couldn't see myself in it long term. As quick as a few changes of courses, what I could see was how much happier I was creating, observing and telling stories. By the time my second semester ended, I made the necessary decision to change my major to Photojournalism and everything finally started to make sense.
I grew up spending most of my time outdoors, catching frogs, fishing, wandering near the water and finding comfort in quiet moments. I was observant by nature, often noticing how many small details of our world are overlooked. Looking back, those early experiences shaped how I see the world and ultimately led me to visual storytelling.
I am currently a junior at Central Michigan University majoring in Photojournalism with minors in Multimedia Design and Entrepreneurship. I created this blog for my Digital Journalism class as a place to showcase my writing, photography and multimedia work. In the end, I hope to share many projects that reflect not only my skills but also my evolving perspective as a journalist.
I work as a photographer for Central Michigan Life, where I cover a wide range of assignments including campus events, sports and cultural gatherings. Being part of a student-run newsroom has emphasized my love for journalism and strengthened my ability to work under deadlines while showcasing accurate and compelling stories. I enjoy documenting what is happening around me and finding meaning in everyday moments.
Outside of journalism, I live at home with my mom who has raised me as a single parent and has shaped me into the strong, independent person I am today. Watching her balance responsibility, perseverance and compassion has taught me the value of hard work and dedication at a young age. Her influence continues to motivate me each and every single day, to push myself, take risks and trust my own path, especially when it isn't the easiest one.
I also have two cats, Lucy and Lola, who are the most loving, with just enough chaos. When I am not working on homework or behind the camera, I enjoy riding my four-wheeler through trails, traveling whenever I get a chance and getting lost in a book on my Kindle.
After college, I hope to continue building a career in Photojournalism, using visual storytelling to document real experiences and highlight voices that deserve to be seen.
